Happy Labour Day!

Today is Labour Day here in Canada and in many places around the world. It’s a day to relax. While I’m sure some of you are waiting to see what this instalment of the Collaboration Dynamics blog will bring, I think it’s more likely that most are enjoying the last long weekend of summer ahead of what is going to be an interesting fall and winter.

For me, I’m getting ready to present a High Performance Collaboration training session tomorrow. It’s a one-day session for which I have probably two and half days’ worth of material. I am excited to present and am even more excited for the conversations our training group is going to have around the concept of developing a collaboration strategy for their organization. But that is for tomorrow.

Today, I’ve been reflecting a little on my path to here. A year ago, I would not have forecast that I would have embarked on this collaboration focused endeavour, providing training and facilitation for collaboration. More than anything else, today in this blog I wanted to recognize the support of four important people who have helped me get to this point. (Now bear with me as this begins to sound like an Oscar’s speech).

My wife, Leanne, is always keeping me from going too crazy with some of my ideas and plans, and is the one I can count on to ‘handle stuff’. My daughter, Shannon, is always there for interesting conversations, sometimes about collaboration, that really help me see if what I have in my head is understandable. Shannon will be helping me conduct the training tomorrow.

I also want to call out two colleagues and friends, for helping nurture the seed of an idea that became Collaboration Dynamics. In our typical style, the three of us batted around ideas until the core of the collaboration dynamics concept emerged. Even though I don’t work directly with either Krista Neilson or Dorian Morcom now, I know I can always count on their insights, support, and humour. Thank goodness for unicorns.

As with any form of collaboration, success comes from the people involved. When you find good people, take the time to let them know you appreciate them and their support.
